Weapons of Mass Deception

Weapons of Mass Deception is a documentary by Danny Schechter (formerly of ABC News' 20/20) that explores the roles played by the the major American news outlets in their coverage of the Iraqi war.

It delves into the efforts by the current and past GOP administrations to contain the media "to prevent another Vietnam"... the roles of the organizations to disseminate -- unchallenged -- propaganda and disinformation provided by the White House... the
problems inherent in the current basic organization of the major media that prevent them from performing real journalism as opposed to play-by-play coverage... the entertain vs. inform clash... and more.

It's an interesting film. It has few surprises for anyone who have gone outside US media for information over the last few years. But it sums up the issues quite nicely.

Why We Fight

I'll have to check it out. There is another eye-opener called "Why We Fight." The filmakers were working on a documentary of the Military-Industrial Complex in recent U.S. history, when along came a total case-in-point: the War in Iraq. Fascinating and scary!
